Market Operations Manager

The Ottawa Farmers’ Market (OFM) is a non-profit farmers’ market association located in Ottawa, Ontario. As the region’s largest producer-only farmers’ market association, the OFM strives to offer the most authentic local shopping experience for residents in the area. With five summer market locations, including one location that runs year-round, the OFM operates vibrant farmers’ markets for residents and producers to gather and enjoy all things local!

The Ottawa Farmers’ Market is seeking a talented and motivated person with not-for-profit, management, or farmers’ market experience to join our team! The Market Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing the planning and execution of the OFM’s indoor and outdoor markets, across all locations, at all times of the year. The Market Operations Manager has on the ground support with a team of Market Supervisors that they also oversee, and administrative and organizational support from the Program Coordinator. From purchasing equipment to stall selection and map building, the Market Operations Manager is responsible for putting all necessary pieces in place for markets to operate at their fullest with the support of the GM and OFM staff.

Terms:
– Position is available immediately.
– Full time, permanent position @ 40 hours per week, annual salary of $50,000.
– Three weeks paid vacation.
– Group benefits package kicks in at the two-month mark.
– Remote working on off-market days, on-site working on market days (as required), with some evening meetings (infrequent).
– Being able to work the Lansdowne Market, every Sunday (with some exceptions) is mandatory.
– Role and responsibilities review at the six-month and 1-year marks, and then annually.
– OFM covers half cell phone plan, and provides an annual $250 clothing allowance.
– Opportunities for paid trips to attend conferences, access additional farmers’ market training and workshops, as approved by the GM.

Desired skills:
– Experience in a farmers’ market environment is strongly desired for this position, with a keen interest in supporting Ottawa’s local food system.
– Post-Secondary education in environmental studies, geography, communications, event planning or related experience and education.
– Experience in building stakeholder relationships, managing and recruiting volunteers, and collaborating across organizations is essential.
– Outgoing and personable, with experience in conflict resolution and strong diplomacy skills.
– Must be able to work all market weekends, year-round, and be able to work from home/remotely during the week, and attend meetings as required.
– Must have a strong grasp Microsoft Office, WordPress, and Google Workspace.
– Must have a valid driver’s license.
– Must be able to lift 25 kgs, and work in inclement weather.
– Having access to a reliable vehicle would be an asset during the summer market season.
– Bilingualism is also an asset.
